David Hockney

I thought it might interest you that David Hockney is still painting and also returned to using oils instead of acrylics.
Whatever you may be thinking of his work, in my opinion me he always has been a true master of color. A real source of inspiration and his latest works show that one more time.
He does exactly what I always try to bring to your attention, let one color really stand out from the others, thus enhancing contrast.
If you read the text you will find that David also likes to work real fast, doing like 4 paintngs on location in one session, wet on wet (and therefore the preference for oils of course!)
Well..that sounds a lot like my own approach.
And then with the sketches on the wall, you can later make a different version of the same subject on a larger canvas in the studio. That is how David works.
Last but not least I love his subject matter. No difficult high-brow stories about themes and concepts. It does not matter what you paint, it is the way you paint it, that turns any subject into art…IF you know your trade.
Now there used to be a great article that I linked to, for you to see what this is all about, but unfortunately it’s no longer around.
I will look around for more info and update this page soon I hope.
