How To Stop Recurring Billing Using PayPal

There is a lot of commotion going on about forced continuity and membershipsites. Apparently creditcard companies are getting enough of all the chargebacks by unhappy customers.

Well, that’s very understandable. Also it is very understandable that people get angry when they see their creditcards being billed, while in some cases they did not even know that they were a paying member of something. Then when these people try to stop this recurring billing, it can be extremely hard to find out how to do that.

I find that very bad business practice and in the past I’ve been a victim of this myself as well. I won’t mention the name, but it is a very big international telecom company that tried to push me around with very intimidating letters and more of that nonsense.

In the end, after a year of arguing, they finally came to the conclusion that I apparently stood my ground, so they gave in. But they tried!

Of course, I don’t care if they shoot in their own feet, by treating their customers like sh*t, but they should not shoot in my feet at the same time.

What I mean by that, is that I try to run a membership site with recurring billing myself and I don’t want my customers to mistrust me, worrying about the ‘wrong’ things.

So I will now explain how you can stop automatic payments yourself, in your own account after login, when using PayPal. It is very simple.

You login and then go to:

• My Account
• History
• Basic Search
• More filters
• Subscriptions and agreements
• Recurring payments

Then when you search you will find the transaction that you’re looking for.

• Click Details

• On the next page click View Details

• Go to Profile Status and click Cancel

…. and voila, that’s it!

Note: You need to stop this payment at least one day before the billing is going to take place.
